Mindfulness is about focusing on what is happening in your body and around you right now.

You can use any OR all of your 5 senses to be aware of what is happening around you:

  • Touch.
  • Smell.
  • Hearing.
  • Taste.
  • Sight.

You can be mindful when you are doing any activities.

Here is an example of mindful eating.

Eating an apple.

Focus on the sound of the crunch of the apple, the taste of the flavours, how the apple feels in your hand.

Image: There are 3 people alongside each other . Person 1 has a bowl of salad on a table in front of them and about to have a mouthful; person 2 has some fruit in front on a table in front of them. They have an apple in their hand with a bite taken from it. Person 3 has a bottle of water on the table in front of them. They are holding a glass of water in 1 hand and looking at the glass.

Now it is your turn.

Think about something you are doing and how you are using your 5 senses.

  • What can you hear?
  • What can you taste?
  • What can you feel?
  • What can you see?
  • What can you smell?
